That part of the sign *) which at birth was rising on the eastern horizon, gives the form of the body, the temperament and the character in general, modified, however, by the signs in which ☉ and ☽ are placed and by the influence of those planets which occupy a prominent place in the horoscope e.g. in the ascendant or in M. The Spiritual Interpretation of the Twelve Houses of the Horoscope
As a sequel to the foregoing subjects, viz., the Zodiac and constellations, we will add the spiritual interpretation of the twelve houses of an horoscope, which completes the triune expression of these celestial symbols of eternal truths.
Often will one apply to an Astrologer with no radical question to ask, yet is very sincere and earnestly desires to know the general conditions which surround him or her, and if changes are liable to occur soon, under these conditions, the artist may execute a figure and judge it in a general way; but must be careful not to predict radically good or evil conditions in the future, unless the querent seems real anxious in regard to matters the artist may speak of.
A Fiery sign ascending, or the ruler of the ascendant in a fiery sign, inclines one to be hasty, impulsive, quick-tempered, revengeful, proud, ambitious, hardy, rash and very persevering for a time, but lacking continuity; often making remarks they are soon sorry for, thereby involving themselves in arguments or disputes; yet they are mostly ingenious; often change their opinions or pursuits.
The first house of the horoscope is that sign of the Zodiac which you would see on the eastern horizon at the time for which the figure is made. It is called the ascendant. It rules the personal appearance of the native, and influences the mind to a certain extent, especially if any planet be in the ascendant.
The student understands clearly that the position of the Houses never varies; House I. always occupying the space devoted to the Zodiacal Sign Aries in our original design of the Zodiacal Circle, while the Zodiacal Sign of Nativity must be placed in this House I. in each particular case.
